I am getting very close to finishing my first novella. I have a chapter and a bit left to edit/ write. I've tried my best to carve out time to write and even though I missed my end of March deadline, it is still early April. I have tightened up the story lines and hopefully have made them more interesting. The character I've found most difficult has been Ori, one of the three brothers. I have nearly re written his entire storyline. I've even added 2 extra chapters because I felt his story moved too fast. My intention wasn't to slow the pace dramatically, but to add depth to the character.
I've also re worked a lot of Eryk's storyline. It wasn't a large scale re write like Ori, but I did scrap the last chapter and a half in favour of new story ideas.
In all, I think I wrote 6 new chapters from scratch. When I started editing, I didn't think that was going to happen. I thought that my story was awesome, but the more I read, the less things my characters did made sense. I've now accepted that re writing an entire chapter is part of the editing process and hopefully in the future, I can plot my chapters and characters with more accuracy.
