New HBO Show

I don't seem to be writing at the same pace I was last week, but I think that might just be down to me learning as I go.  I have 2 half completed chapters on the go.  I  just could not decide which character I wanted to write about.  I also think that I need to do a further bit of planning.  I know where I want the characters to go, I just have to make their journey interesting.

Continuing on from yesterday.  I was talking about the George rr Martin books that inspired me to write a fantasy novel.  It should be noted that the first book; A Game of Thrones, has been adapted into a show for HBO.  I have added a gadget that will allow the viewing of some of the trailers.  I have never been this excited for a show.  If the show is anywhere near as good as the book, we are in for a treat.  I am so excited about it that I have even made my Fiance read the book and she is really enjoying it so far.

Now I know that the book is always better than the show or movie and only time will tell if that happens in this case.  I recently read Pillars of the Earth and then watched the show.  The show was decent, but with only 8 episodes, it was hard for them to cram everything in.  Certain plot lines had to be dropped and others changed around.  Infact, for those that have read the book, the show cuts the last 200 or so pages and completely changes the ending, which I found disappointing.  I am hoping that with a full season of episodes and potentially further seasons, the producers of A Game of Thrones get it right.  And judging by some of the recently released trailers and the 12 minute behind the scenes documentary, it looks like they have.  It also helps the George rr Martin is overseeing the production.

In any case, the show premiers on Sunday April 17th, a date I have had marked on my calendar for some time.  There is still time to read the book before the show premiers.  It is about 800 pages, but is well worth it.

  1. For more examples of fantasy books containing characters that are skeptical of magic, try Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth series. The main character was born one of the most powerful wizards in a thousand years but had no clue as to his power. Once told of it, he has no clue how to use it and usually, no desire to. Pretty good reading. I can lend you some books to start.

  2. Thanks, that would be awsome man. The more references, the better.
